made it to hawaii!

I made it to hawaii, seem to have caught up form the jet lag, more or less. I no longer feel like the walking dead anyway. Hoping to head down to the beach today, see what hilo has to offer. I'll get pictures and more updates up later!

I'm Auriel Van Der Laar and I recently graduated from Michigan Tech with a Bachelors of Science in Wildlife Ecology and Management with a Remote Sensing minor.

I hail from Ohio where I rarely seem to be anymore. The northwoods has captured my heart but I still long for the buckeye state more then I like to admit.

January 30 - June 5 of 2012 I'll be living in Hilo, Hawaii working on a sweet bird project, and I hope to be starting graduate school in the fall of 2012.

I love birds, backpacking, my dog, my family and reading. I am a bit of a work-a-holic and am pretty good at juggling way to many things a once.

This blog started as a way for me to communicate with family and friends back home when I was going to college 700+ miles away from my native NW Ohio. But now that I'm out of college I'm planning on keeping it up, it has served as a great receptacle of many a weird college tale and I'm sure there's more to come!
